(Sept. 5, 2022 Carmichael, CA) “There’s a fitness coach for children, adults, seniors, and those with disabilities but no one ever considers that a mother of an unborn child is a perfect fitness coach for that baby in the womb,” Donna Schwontkowski, author of the new book The Womb Diaries. All Mommy-Baby Communication Starts Here said.
“Yet, 21% of the 25 women I worked with that submitted their womb diaries for my preliminary analysis specifically focused on exercising during pregnancy – and stated they actually felt the baby dancing in the womb,” she continued.
Here’s a synopsis of two of the mothers’ stories:
Mom #1 (France) Exercise Flipped a Breech Position
Her baby was in a longitudinal breech position for a whole month, near month 8, and the mom was hospitalized for two days as the doctor tried to change the baby’s position. Then a few weeks later, the baby was in a transverse breech position and she was in ICU for 4 days to try to change the position. The baby didn’t comply.

Mom #1 (France) Exercise Flipped a Breech PositionHer baby was in a longitudinal breech position for a whole month, near month 8, and the mom was hospitalized for two days as the doctor tried to change the baby’s position. Then a few weeks later, the baby was in a transverse breech position and she was in ICU for 4 days to try to change the position. The baby didn’t comply.
The doctor took her aside and said she should go for a walk and develop a relationship with the baby in the womb; this type of relationship was strong, effective and productive although it was not explainable or even understandable. Every evening the mom went for a walk and told her baby, “Baby, we are exercising and when we do, we move our body. Every part of our body should not be rigid. So you are going to work out with mum.”
She could feel her baby moving in new ways on the walk and was convinced that the baby was walking with her. It was as if she felt someone dancing and the movement was in all directions, not just one direction. At the end of the walking, the baby fell asleep. They walked every night and at the end of the week, her baby was in the proper position. After birth, her baby was swimming at the age of 9 months (and cries when it’s time to get out of the water) and walking at 10 months.
Mom #2 (U.S.) Exercise and Music Gave Him a Sense of Rhythm
This mom owned a dance studio where she had many classes in gymnastics, tumbling, and other forms of dance. She worked between 50 and 60 hours a week and was pregnant. She did the gymnastics and tumbling until the baby bump interfered with them. While they were at the studio, there was always music playing in the background. She found that the baby became active during the time she was at the studio and quiet at other times.
After her baby was born, he was very athletic, was in a teen band, understood music theory perfectly, and had an excellent sense of rhythm.
“Babies in the womb are more capable than what we give them credit for,” Schwontkowski said. By increasing our communication with them during those critical months, we are laying the foundation for their future. These are exciting times to be a mom!”
