(Sept. 10, 2022. Carmichael, CA) “Many Christians learning the Bible realize that there’s a lot more instruction in the scriptures than what is commonly believed,” Donna Schwontkowski, author of the new book The Womb Diaries. All Mommy-Baby Communication Starts Here said.
General Scriptures
“Often, women want to know what the scriptures have to say to them about pregnancy and usually only general verses are offered, such as Psalm 127:3, ‘Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him’ or Philippians 4:6-7, ‘Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.’ But these may not seem specific enough for pregnant moms.”

Other verses that are commonly meditated include:
1. Psalm 139:13-14 For you created my innermost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.
2. Jeremiah 1:5 Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.
Reassurance and Consolation Scriptures
There are also verses for reassurance and peace:
1. John 14:27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
2. Philippians 4:13 I can do this through him who gives me strength.
3. Psalm 30:5 Weeping may stay for the night but rejoicing comes in the morning.
4. 2 Samuel 22:33 It is God who arms me with strength and keeps my way secure.
5. 2 Chronicles 15:7 But as for you, be strong and do not give up, for your work will be rewarded.
Where are the Verses on Prenatal Education?
But some women want even more specificity than these verses. When faced with the question of whether or not educating a child in the womb is a good idea, they come up with nothing.
Yet there are verses in the bible that address prenatal education. Genesis 30 is about Jacob putting branches that were stripped to reveal stripes or speckles in front of pregnant sheep and goats. Jacob was able to control the breeding of the flocks to get more offspring that he wanted. Jacob got plenty of lambs and kids that were speckled or striped.
What this story tells us is that whatever we gaze upon and see during pregnancy will influence what we get in our babies. What we read to our babies, do during pregnancy, talk about and think about during pregnancy educates the babies and creates their neurological pathways to be linked to those things. What we gaze upon during pregnancy, we get.
Another scripture verse that teaches us what to do for prenatal education is Proverbs 22:6, “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” If we instruct the baby in the womb about the scriptures by reading to him, then his brain’s neurological pathways are being developed with scriptures as their foundation.
“Knowing these scriptures can give pregnant women a deeper sense of fulfillment and acknowledgement that what they are doing during pregnancy is godly and will be productive and fruitful. Reading the bible daily is one of the most relationship-building acts that can be done quite easily during pregnancy. Even a 10-minute reading session, especially of Proverbs and Psalms will potentially give parents a baby that is relationship-oriented, calm, peaceful, and loving. It’s essential for mommy-baby communication,” Schwontkowski said.
